"The killing of a Chinese bookie": To clear his debt, a strip club owner grapples with his own conscience as he must kill a Chinese bookie. "Opening night": A young woman gets killed in an accident trying to meet her favorite actress after a play.

Lelia, a light-skinned black woman living in New York with her two brothers, has an affair with a white man.
